A History of Innovation
The Hilborn Group, led by Jim Hilborn and drawing on over 45 years of experience in the Canadian information service field, is focused on on the charitable, nonprofit management, and fundraising sectors in Canada. With a broad publishing background that includes books, annual reports, directories, seminars, market research, cassette-based information services and internet publishing, we have produced and marketed newsletters, magazines and booklets for thousands of clients throughout Canada.
In 1991, Hilborn created Canadian FundRaiser (now Canadian Fundraising & Philanthropy) the first paid-subscription business-to-business newsletter serving the Canadian nonprofit management and development sector. A few years later in early 1995, we launched, with a partner, the sector’s first web portal, CharityVillage, which quickly attained phenomenal success and international recognition.
In 2001, Hilborn introduced Canadian Fundraising & Philanthropy eNEWS, an eLetter version of Canadian FundRaiser that has become the essential news service for Canadian nonprofit managers, and in 2005 we acquired Gift Planning in Canada, Canada’s first newsletter serving professional gift planners.
In early 2004, Hilborn launched a series of affordable workshops for the Canadian nonprofit sector all across Canada, and within a year, our Key-To-The-Sector Workshops were expanded across Canada to include online delivery, webinars and video conferencing, in addition to traditional in-person gatherings. In 2010, the KTS programs expanded to include a series of FORA Breakfast Consultations, bringing leading authors to Canada to share ground-breaking ideas on societal trends in fundraising and philanthropy.
For the last three years, through our Civil Sector Press imprint, we have been the only book publisher focussing solely on the Canadian not-for-profit sector.
