Theresa Butler-Porter, MFA-P (Philanthropy) has spent more than 25 years in fundraising and philanthropy — and remains endlessly curious about why people give, what sparks generosity and why we sometimes make fundraising so much more complicated than it needs to be.

With broad experience across education, healthcare, social justice and the charitable sector, Theresa brings both strategic thinking and practical, hands-on experience to her work with PGgrowth clients. Her expertise includes legacy giving, fundraising strategy, donor engagement, coaching, mentoring and capacity building.

She is particularly passionate about helping organizations build legacy giving programs that are thoughtful and ambitious — but also practical, sustainable and manageable in the real world. Having seen first-hand what a strong legacy program can mean to an organization’s future, Theresa believes planned giving should be a natural part of fundraising and donor conversations, not something sitting quietly off to the side.

Theresa is also deeply interested in women and philanthropy — how women see themselves as donors and changemakers, how gender can influence giving, and how organizations can better recognize and engage the philanthropic power of women.

And she loves working with fundraisers themselves — coaching, mentoring, asking good questions and helping people build confidence in the wonderfully human side of this work.

Known for her energetic and conversational style, Theresa has presented at events across Canada and brings the same curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm to her client work.
